Co-op, Field Engineering Coordinator/Surveyor

NAC is currently seeking a Field Engineering Coordinator/Surveyor Co-op Student (minimum 8 month duration, or more) to join our Woodward Wastewater Treatment Plant project team in Hamilton, ON. Students interested in gaining survey experience, while in the field, are encouraged to apply.

Under the direction of Civil Superintendent the field engineer is responsible for providing technical and engineering support at the front end of construction. This field engineer will be involved in surveying and be responsible for efficiently using surveying equipment on the heavy construction project site.  The individual must be proficient in ensuring exact measurements and determining site boundaries. Provide data relevant to the shape, contour, gravitation, location, elevation or dimension of land or land features, for engineering, mapmaking, land evaluation, construction and other purposes.

Job Description:

  • Effectively interact with other key NAC personnel working in a team environment
  • Participate in become knowledgeable with NAC'S Health & Safety policies and procedures, as per the roles and responsibilities within the HSE Manual
  • Conduct ground surveys designed to establish baselines, elevations and other geodetic measurements
  • Verify accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at site
  • Project Coordination duties, as assigned
  • Assist with costing and ensuring that information is properly coded
  • Provide technical information and quantities of work for a particular operation (e.g., laying of concrete)
  • Provide technical assistance to the Superintendents
  • Monitor Quality Assurance for field operations and advise Superintendent of non-compliance
  • Review specifications and construction drawings
  • Monitor scope of work and changes to scope Contacts Sub-Contractors and Suppliers for scheduling and scope of requirement


  • Currently enrolled in a Construction Management Technology program, Civil Engineering or other relevant program and enrolled in a registered co-op program
  • 1 year experience working in the construction industry is preferred
  • Experience using Total Station is an asset (training will be provided for individuals eager to learn)
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft software such as, Excel, Word and Outlook. Experience using AutoCad is an asset
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and maintain a high level of accuracy
  • QA/QC aspects of the project, drawing control and site quantities
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task
  • High level of initiative and keen interest in technical problem solving
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Willing to travel with NAC in Canada (in future) may provide long term career opportunities
  • Valid WHMIS and Working at Heights are required
