Carpenter Apprentices - Hamilton, ON

NAC is currently seeking Carpenter Apprentices local to our Woodward Wastewater Treatment Plant project in Hamilton, ON.

Under the direction of Civil Superintendent the Apprentice Carpenter is responsible for assisting in the building, restoring and/or installing of structural formwork, concrete, wood and related materials.  This position requires knowledge of the heavy construction industry, specifically the practices, procedures, techniques, tools and equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control, and safety associated with this industry.  The Apprentice Carpenter must be proficient at the following tasks:  layouts, constructing and installing building materials, reading blueprints, and must possess mathematical and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates.

Position Description:

  • Assist Carpenters with daily tasks and duties contributing to on-site day-to-day operations
  • Assist in the assembly and erection of forms for concrete, wood and metal frame construction and use plans and instruments to prepare for excavating and shoring
  • Participate in Tool Box Talks daily and communicate any safety concerns
  • Maintain a clean, safe work environment, and comply with all Health & Safety regulations
  • Operate and maintain carpentry tools and equipment
  • Keep a daily log of tasks
  • Respect and respond to direction given
  • Handle and transport job materials to the work area as needed
  • Advise Journeypersons/Forepersons of any variances to schedule and/or material issues
  • Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required and the work does not exceed own limitations
  • Understand and comply with all company policies and procedures


  • 1 plus years' experience working in heavy construction
  • Must have experience used advanced formwork systems (LOGO or Peri preferred)
  • Must have concrete pouring experience
  • Flat concrete finishing experience is an asset
  • Experience on 7 meter high walls is an asset
  • Experience working with circular formwork tanks is an asset
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures
  • Ability to operate carpentry tools and required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ability to read building specifications, prints and as-builds
  • Proactive in ensuring job knowledge is current
  • WHMIS certificate is required
  • Valid Working at Heights ticket is required
  • Valid Elevated Work Platform ticket is preferred
