Project Engineer - Head Office, Morriston, ON

NAC is seeking a Project Engineer (civil, mechanical or electrical discipline) to join our Head Office Operations team. This technically strong and detailed individual will work alongside the President and possess 5+ years experience in a similar role.

Reporting to the President, the Project Engineer with be responsible for performing such duties as: design and construction of water and sewage treatment plants, buildings and infrastructure.  The Civil Engineer must have a general understanding of the project’s contract management, documentation, and reporting, while ensuring coordination of the information is timely and clear, and the progression of the construction work is uninterrupted.

Position responsibilities:

  • Thorough understanding and proper interpretation of the full scope of the project work.
  • Provide feedback and advice regarding the technical and structural aspects of company projects to management and other project leaders; supervising the preparation and review of contract drawings and documents.
  • Oversee the planning, design, construction and estimation of cost for company projects.
  • Establishing design and construction schedules and monitoring progress of various projects and their conformance to design and construction schedules.
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects.
  • Plan and design transportation or hydraulic systems and structures, following construction and government standards, using design software and drawing tools.
  • Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications.
  • Supervising the preparation of project contract documents.
  • Preparing budgets by projecting resource needs and determining funding priorities for a division or section.
  • Analyzing the section budget for reasonability, needs, and justification.
  • Prepare job status reports and other reports as required for reporting to senior management.
  • Making technical reviews and providing recommendations regarding designs and reports prepared by consulting engineers.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of planning and scheduling tools such as CPM schedule computer software and Planning Aid reports. Maintain accurate and up-to-date project schedules through a good understanding of the project scope and building strategies. Apply basic understanding of building sequencing in the creation and maintenance of the CPM schedule.
  • Analyze the preparation, tracking, control and distribution of all Contract documents and drawings.
  • Assist in preparing, distribution and communicating document requirements for equipment start-up, commissioning and equipment control logs (inc. green/red tagging).
  • Assist in the project close out process including in-house detailed deficiency/incomplete work list and timely completion and sign off of each item.
  • Obtain field experience for career growth by assisting project management in the project field.


  • 5+ years of Engineering Experience.
  • Construction experience or an equivalent combination of technical training & experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner.
  • Works effectively in a team environment and under high pressure.
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
  • Excellent time management and project management skills.
