Thornbury WWTP Phase 1A Expansion

The Thornbury Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Phase 1A Expansion was a comprehensive and detailed infrastructure project aimed at significantly enhancing the capacity, functonality, and efficiency of the wastewater treatment facility.

The project involved extensive upgrades to existng systems, the additon of new facilites, and infrastructure improvements across the site. Work began with preconstructon surveys of all site facilites, as well as clearing and preparing the area for constructon, including the removal of trees to accommodate constructon laydown and trailer areas. Mobilizaton and demobilizaton efforts were planned to ensure a smooth start and conclusion to constructon actvites.

One major component of the project was the enhancement of the headworks facility, where the existng mezzanine platorm was extended, and new mechanical screens, screening com-pactors, and associated piping systems were installed, tested, and commissioned. Additonally, improvements included replacing wastewater piping with larger, more efficient systems, install-ing a monorail system, and adding a new influent automatc sampler. Modificatons to the build-ing also included replacing overhead doors, adding a new window, relocatng electrical conduits and ductwork, and connectng the new washer compactor to the extended service water line.

The project also included the constructon of a new intermediate spliter chamber and chan-nels, installaton of adjustable weir gates, and significant upgrades to aeraton tanks. The later involved removing existng internals, constructng a new aeraton tank with fine bubble diffuser systems, and retrofitng the two existng tanks with similar advanced systems. Dissolved oxygen analyzers were installed across all tanks, while additonal components like lightng fixtures and unwatering pipes were also upgraded.
