Major Milestones Reached at Capilano Raw Water Pump Station
North Vancouver’s Capilano Raw Water Pump Station Backup Power Project has entered an exciting new phase of progress in early 2025, with key project components installed and significant electrical infrastructure milestones achieved.
Among the most notable accomplishments is the completion of the high-voltage duct bank and cable pull—possibly the most critical milestone of the project to date. Over an eight-day period, six 500MCM 15kV cables were pulled through 400 metres of concrete-encased duct bank, extending from the Powerhouse to the exterior of the existing Capilano Pump Station. Then the cables were pulled into the building and prepared for termination.
Additional highlights include:
- Installation of 16 switchgear cells, MCCs, transformers, and control panels in the Powerhouse electrical room
- Delivery and offloading of major outdoor equipment, including 7,000+ kg glycol heat exchangers and load bank systems
- Substantial mechanical and electrical progress in the Powerhouse, Gatehouse and Fuel Vault buildings
- Ongoing installation of interior and exterior architectural finishes
With building exteriors nearing completion and all major equipment on site, the project is steadily progressing toward substantial completion. The NAC team remains focused and adaptable, committed to maintaining momentum through the final stretch.
Stay tuned for more project highlights from NAC’s teams across Canada as we continue powering forward.
