211 - Bracebridge Falls Generating Station

Bracebridge Falls Generating Station Reconstruction

The Bracebridge Falls Generating Station Reconstruction consisted of an expansion to the existing Bracebridge Falls Generating Station including the construction of water passages with a deepened forebay, inlet channel and tailrace; a larger penstock and draft tube increasing the current flow of 10m3 per second to 27m3 to second; in combination with a new turbine and generation equipment the electrical production capability increased to 2600kW from the existing 600kW.

Technical challenges on this project included the removal and deepening of the existing works under the existing 110-year-old powerhouse, and installation of unforeseen shotcrete and rock bolt stabilization systems, all while working in close proximity to a pristine water environment with stringent environmental protection measures and fish habitat protection.
