Oakville Water Purification Plant
The Oakville WPP Phase II Upgrade project included the retrofit of an existing and fully operational Water Purification Plant.
Specific scope items included upgraded treatment processes, modifications and additions to the existing building structures, upgrades to the electrical power routing and components and installation of large-diameter reinforced pressure pipe and concrete pressure pipe.
A portion of the project called for the installation of a 900 mm concrete pressure pipe utilizing MTBM technology and micro-tunnelling including both launch and recovery shafts as well as the installation of the associated valve chambers.
This work occurred in an environmentally sensitive area adjacent to Lake Ontario within a densely populated housing district with extensive existing buried services. Numerous road closure and traffic control requirements were implemented to ensure a smooth, quiet and safe project for the local residents.
