Denis St. Pierre Water Pollution Control Plant Expansion

NAC successfully delivered a comprehensive upgrade and expansion of the Denis St. Pierre Water Pollution Control Plant in Lakeshore, Ontario. The project involved critical enhancements to modernize the facility, improve operational efficiency, and increase capacity to meet growing demands.

NAC upgraded the Maidstone Pumping Station No. 8 by installing a new set of screw pumps, including one lower and one upper pump, and replacing the existing three pumps with state-of-the-art units. Screening and grit removal systems were enhanced with the addition of a second fine screening facility and a new grit removal system. The primary effluent chamber was also modified to optimize flow distribution by replacing flow-splitting weirs with automated gates.

To advance the aeration and clarification processes, NAC constructed four-zone selector tanks equipped with submersible mixers and fine bubble aeration systems, along with two new extended aeration tanks. These tanks were supported by new air piping, blower facilities, and improved access infrastructure. Secondary treatment was further strengthened with the addition of two clarifiers and integrated sludge pumping facilities, complemented by a new Alum Storage and Feed Facility.

The project included the construction of a cutting-edge UV disinfection facility with concrete channels housing advanced UV lamp systems and automated level control gates. For biosolids stabilization, NAC built three new aerobic digesters with jet aeration systems and provisions for a future digester tank. A new centrifuge dewatering facility was added, featuring sludge grinders, feed pumps, polymer systems, and odor control equipment.

Significant site-wide upgrades were implemented, including a new effluent pump and parallel outfall sewer, as well as the modernization of electrical and control systems. NAC constructed new roads, water mains, hydrants, sanitary sewers, and plant water supply pipelines to enhance infrastructure reliability and access.
