Mississippi Mills Wastewater Treatment Plant
The Mississippi Mills Wastewater Treatment Plant project involved the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant adjacent to the site of existing sewage lagoons to serve the town of Almonte, Ontario.
The construction of the plant ran 22 months. It involved all disciplines including rock and earth excavation, yard piping, reinforced concrete, various architectural trades, equipment installations, process piping, building HVAC as well as electrical distribution, instrumentation and SCADA.
Included in this was the construction of a 1.4 km long sewage force main from the existing pump station. The plant intakes raw sewage and discharges filtered, disinfected effluent at the existing discharge point. The process includes screening and grit removal, aeration, clarification, filtration, UV disinfection, sludge thickening, digestion and dewatering as well as cake handling and storage.
As part of the upgrade the existing sewage pump station was retrofitted with new coarse bar screens and raw sewage transfer pumps as well as electrical distribution equipment.
