Seymour-Capilano Water Treatment Plant Underdrain Replacement Project
The Work of this contract consists of the supply and installation of all materials related to the construction of a new filter underdrain system at the Seymour Capilano Filtration Plant (SCFP) in the Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve.
The project involves extensive planning and staging to minimize disruption to the operational facility. More specifically, the scope of work involves the retrofit of 24 existing dual media filters with a total capacity of 1800ML/d. Design of the new filters requires a Computational Fluid dynamics Model (CFD model) as well as full scale testing prior to design finalization and fabrication.
The key components of the work are generally described as follows:
- Site preparation including removal and temporary storage of filter media on site
- Removal of the existing underdrain laterals and all surficial and interstitial grout
- Repair of concrete and patching within filter cells
- Application of leveling mortar
- Supply and installation of new underdrain system under manufacturer’s supervision
- Supply of additional filter media if needed, to meet filter bed depth
- Air and water distribution testing
- Filter media loading and skimming / washing
- Disinfection of completed filter
- Off-site disposal / recycling of removed material
- Commissioning
