Mattagami Water Pollution Control Plant

The Mattagami WPCP Secondary Treatment project involved upgrading and expanding the existing Water Pollution Control Plant including the construction of 3 new aeration tanks, 3 secondary clarifiers with scum pits, RAS/WAS gallery, raw sewage pumping station, blower building, secondary treatment building, and an Intermediate pumping station.

Modifications also include the replacement of existing inlet screens, grit classifiers, and modifications to the chlorine contact structures as well as a complete new electrical high voltage service complete with a new incoming transformer and backup generator and construction of new structural foundations, buried piping and electrical duct banks in very high ground water conditions (near grade elevation).

This project also encountered a major design change at the beginning of the project to improve ground conditions by increasing the bearing capacity and modules of sub-grade reaction to the top 10 meters of loose sand. This early change was successfully achieved by way of dynamic compaction, and the project continued to be delivered as per the original projected schedule.
