Red Deer Wastewater Treatment Plant
This $56M upgrade, as part of the provincial project for centralization of wastewater treatment in Central Alberta, has significantly increased the intake of the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Red Deer and also preserves the water quality in a stretch of the Red Deer River.
NAC self-performed the earthworks, shoring, concrete, mechanical, and electrical scopes of work in order to complete the following construction:
- Two biological nutrient bio-reactors
- The primary clarifier tanks
- A fermenter tank
- Primary and secondary influent flow-splitting chambers
- Three secondary clarifier tanks
- A digested sludge cell
- A FOG Transfer Station
- The installation of the UV modules
- The addition and modification to the digester building along with supply and installation of the interconnecting tunnels
- Piping and related equipment to incorporate all the new components.
In addition, there were a number of upgrades and retrofit works to the existing treatment facility and control system at the Red Deer WWTP. Some of these upgrades included new automatic screens in the head work’s building, mechanical upgrades to the 4 digester tanks, mechanical upgrades to the 3 primary clarifiers, and reconstruction and mechanical upgrades for the grit removal system.
