Tofino Wastewater Treatment Plant Featured in Innovation – Summer 2025
We’re pleased to share that the Tofino Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) project has been featured in the Summer 2025 edition of Innovation, the magazine published by Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
This annual Project Highlights issue showcases sustainable and innovative infrastructure projects led by EGBC registrants—and we’re proud to see NAC’s work recognized alongside our project partners.
Delivered through a collaborative effort between the District of Tofino, WSP Canada Inc., Great Pacific Consulting, and NAC Constructors Ltd., the project introduced critical wastewater infrastructure to the region. With construction completed in 2024 and the system commissioned by NAC, the WWTP is now fully operational and performing in accordance with its new operational certificate.
The facility features an integrated fixed film activated sludge (IFAS) process designed by WSP, offering both capital and lifecycle cost savings. In addition to the treatment plant itself, the project includes four pump stations, 3,600 m of new sewer, and a 1,500 m effluent line extending 500 m into Clayoquot Sound—protecting sensitive marine ecosystems and traditional shellfish harvesting areas.
